Long time no see !

Happy to report I am getting in the swing of daily studio time mostly due to a simple rearranging of the house to turn the former living room into a closed off studio space. Once I build this out a little more (fantasizing about pegboards and a longer desk) I think having a proper place to photograph new works and organize/store materials will be a major game changerrrrr.

My November goals were to complete at least three junk spreads (check) assemble the body of the ragdoll (check) and finish any other pattern making/material sourcing needed to complete the doll (ccchhhheeeeeccckkkkkkk but the doll isn’t finished) I assembled that whole body and the little Nic relic stuffed inside but ran into some issues with the ears and had to pause to do some more research and more pattern testing. Once the ears are made and attached, all that's left is the details of the face and whipping up a little outfit.

I decided to– at least temporarily– untether myself from the gouache WIP. I’ll just leave her on the easel until I have a burning desire to paint. Instead I started --and finished-- a little test weave (top of post). I put together a cardboard loom and wove a tiny banner with some yarn and scraps I’ve been hoarding. I am really excited to explore fiber arts this year. I enjoy the process of weaving and sewing and am finally adding a sewing machine (thanks Mom!) to the mix. I am buzzing with potential sewing projects to dive into– I’ve always wanted to make my own clothes and have been super inspired by some tapestry and soft sculpture work I’ve been seeing online. Unfortunately my first project will have to be opening the box and reading the manual.

In other news I finished a roll of film and started a new one. It will probably be another month before I develop but it feels good to be taking photos again.  Still open to film recs as well as literally any helpful information about sewing/patterns/quilting/soft sculpture I want to hear it all!!!

I’m not super into new years resolutions but I do want to focus on process this year. I hope by next January I am surrounded by lots of new work, finished or not, and I hope to have learned something new from them.
